Fifteen injured, including three minors, remained hospitalized in the municipalities of Bayamo and Manzanillo, in this eastern province, after the traffic accident that occurred early Tuesday morning, in the coastal territory of Media Luna.
The incident – which has preliminarily left three dead and 17 injured – occurred when a truck with passengers rushed down one of the sides of the road, while traveling along the road that connects the municipalities of Media Luna and Campechuela, in a area known as La Norma.
Dr. Yelenis Elías Monte, director of Public Health in Granma, informed this newspaper that, until last night, at the Carlos Manuel de Céspedes Provincial General Hospital in Bayamo, four people reported critical remained (three of them stable and one life-threatening).
She also said that in that health institution there was a minor with a head injury, although his clinical condition remained stable.
The directive specified that at the Hermanos Cordovés Pediatric Hospital, in Manzanillo, two other infants were receiving medical assistance, without danger to life, while at the Celia Sánchez Manduley Teaching Surgical Clinical Hospital, in that same city, about one tens of wounded in the secondary level.
After learning of the unfortunate event, the highest authorities of the Party and the Government in Granma visited the three medical centers to inquire about the state of health of the injured.
Although the causes of the accident are still being investigated, local residents commented that the truck lost control and overturned.
