The Granma Beekeeping Base Business Unit (UEB) was among the best in the country for its outstanding contributions in honey production, export and import substitution.
The beekeepers of Granma exceeded the plan of production of honey up to 170 thousand tons, of 1 015 planned, at the end of December 2019.
Jorge Luis López Reyes, agricultural sub-delegate in the provincial Delegation of Agriculture, highlighted the already consolidated work of the entity, which is getting ready to start exporting Queen Bees in this 2020.
Lopez affirmed that Granma will go for more in its commitment to growth in beekeeping production in the current year and keep good performance of wax and propolis products, in addition to enroll into the extraction of royal jelly, high demand in the pharmaceutical industry.
Likewise, the province is the largest producer of organic honey in Cuba, which are sold at a high prices in the world market.
The eastern territory has productive capacity and strengths in honey and has 266 beekeepers associated with 61 Credit and Service Cooperatives, three Basic Units of Cooperative Production of them two producers of Queen Bees and other Agricultural Cooperatives.
