Cane planting progresses, despite difficulties

When the harvest continues in complex conditions due to various problems, the cane planting registers a situation of greater optimism due to the priority it has to achieve, in an immediate stage, to recover the sugar cane production in the province of Granma.

The 2,044.28 hectares planted from January to April are valued here with the indicator of progress, although it requires reaching higher rates in the months of May and June.

Pedro Ayala Boza, head of the Agricultural Group, in the Directorate of Coordination and Technical Supervision of Azcuba, pointed out the importance of opening more planting fronts in the production units, in particular in Grito de Yara, in Río Cauto, with about 30 hectares per day, a company that decides the commitment of the province.

Ayala Boza explained that this entity has the largest plan that involves a lot of organization in the preparation of the land to put in motion the 500 hectares that are missing and fulfill in the spring campaign.

Another group that urgently needs intense work is Bartolomé Masó, which owes 264 hectares to the plan, while in its favor it has the fact that all the land is in motion with the challenge of working on its preparation and furrows, in areas compromised in the program until June.

The Arquímides Colina, Roberto Ramírez and Enidio Díaz companies exceeded what had been planned until that date with the purpose of increasing yields and ensuring part of the quality seed to be planted in the coming years and responding to the call to save the sugar agribusiness.

The official highlighted that starting in 2022 there will be a notable recovery in production levels with the goal of planting almost 10,000 hectares of the grass by the end of the year, despite the limitations and lack of material resources.
