China sends a new donation of medical supplies to Cuba

Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Cuba, reported today on the arrival in the country of the donation sent by the government of the People’s Republic of China to confront COVID-19.
In his profile on the social network Twitter, the Foreign Minister expressed the appreciation of the government and the people of the Island for such action.
He stressed that this is a sign of the close friendship that unites both countries, and asserted that in times of pandemic, solidarity and cooperation save lives.
Carlos Miguel Pereira Hernández, Cuban ambassador to China, recently denounced the impossibility of arrival of medical supplies from that Asian nation to the largest of the Antilles, due to the extraterritorial effects of the Helms-Burton Act.
With a batch of masks, infrared thermometers and protective glasses, suits and shoes, it began the arrival of donations from China to Cuba, to face the COVID-19 pandemic, present in 179 countries.
In the official delivery of the donation, at the headquarters of the Ministry of Public Health of Cuba (Minsap), Chen Xi, Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China in Cuba, stressed that the two peoples are brothers and that solidarity will continue, despite the tough times.
This Sunday the first shipment arrived, with 200,000 masks, 10,000 surgical masks, 2,000 disposable suits, 500 infrared thermometers, 2,000 protective goggles and an equal number of pairs of surgical gloves and pairs of isolation shoes.
The batch included 10,000 suits and the same number of sanitary masks delivered by Yutong, a Chinese automotive transport company with a large presence in Cuba, in addition, the Beijing embassy in Havana gave $ 200,000 to MINSAP for the confrontation with COVID- 19.
Ana Teresita González Fraga, First Deputy Minister of Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment of Cuba; Luis Fernando Navarro, Vice Minister of Public Health, as well as representatives of Yutong, participated in the emotional event.
Until April 5, 179 countries with COVID-19 cases are reported, with one million 174 thousand 652 confirmed cases, 64 thousand 400 deaths and a fatality of 5.88%, likewise, transmission is reported in 172 countries.
