Cuba sells photovoltaic solar systems in the national market

The state company Copextel will begin today the commercialization in Cuba in national currency of photovoltaic solar systems for the introduction of these in the residential sector and promoting the use of renewable energies.

According to the announcement on the social networks of the mentioned entity, the installation of the equipment requires conditions such as a ceiling surface (roof) or available floor of 12.5 square meters of concrete.

From this Thursday, customers will be able to go to the Electric Company to contract the connection to the national system, only in the Cuban capital in the first stage, the text specifies.

The payment can be in cash, electronically or request a credit in a banking institution for the amount of about 55 thousand pesos (approximately 2,300 dollars).

The purchase includes all the components of the product, as well as its transportation and visits of the technicians for installation and assembly.

This is the first time that these devices will be sold to the population in Cuban pesos and at this stage they will only be marketed in Havana, although in the coming months the service should reach the rest of the country.

The panels convert the available solar energy into electricity for consumption in homes, businesses and industries, which generates significant savings in the electricity bill, specified the Cubadebate web portal.

Since 2014, Cuba approved a policy for the development of renewable energy sources (FRE) until 2030, with the goal of reaching 24 percent of the obtaining of electricity from inexhaustible natural resources.

However, the National Electric Union recently updated its program and plans to reach 37 percent.

According to experts, today the generation with the FRE as a base is close to five percent of that predicted, with a greater impact of the sugarcane biomass.
