Cuba Vice President visits productive pole in Pilón

Salvador Valdés Mesa, first vice-president of the councils of State and Ministers of Cuba, toured the productive pole in the municipality of Pilón, as part of a two days working visit in the province of Granma.

Alexander Rojas Perez, provincial delegate of the Agriculture, explained the beginnings of the project from the potential and characteristics of the area planted with cassava, banana root vegetables, coconut and pineapple without irrigation.

Rojas Pérez said that Granma managed to complete the banana plantations for every thousand inhabitants with 11,200 hectares and there will continue planting cassava to reach the same goal.

The member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba recognized the right idea and pointed out to achieve the agricultural yield and the need to available fields must be harvested.

During the exchange it was informed that 320 hectares are planting on both sides of the road to the town and more technicians will be in charge of the crops to detect if there is depopulation or pests.

Valdés Mesa highlighted the importance of marketing the cassava, yam, malanga and banana productions, permanent crops, in dry land as food security throughout this valley of the mountainous range in the rainy season or war contingency and the need to reduce the import of corn.

¨ Your business is to sell bananas and cassava to other eastern provinces, substitute imports”, he stressed.

The Vice President was accompanied by Federico Hernández Hernández, member of the Central Committee and first secretary of the Party in Granma; Yanetsy Terry Gutiérrez, vice president of the Provincial Assembly of People´s  Power, and Francisco Escribano Cruz, vice president for the People´s Power Administration body.
