The permanent representative of Cuba to the United Nations, Pedro Luis Pedroso, stressed that his people are aware of the genocidal effects of the United States blockade, which today strongly impacts every sector of that Caribbean country.
Through his official Twitter account, the ambassador also echoed a statement made by the American lawyer of Cuban origin Alfred de Zayas, who was an independent UN expert for the promotion of a democratic and equitable international order.
According to De Zayas, economic sanctions kill and this has been empirically demonstrated by the rapporteurs and agencies of the multilateral organization. But the killers are never punished and their sanctions regimes continue to kill the most vulnerable in many countries, the American lawyer lamented on Twitter.
Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, the highest authorities of the United Nations have called for the lifting or relief of sanctions and unilateral coercive measures imposed on other countries. This with the aim of facilitating access to health supplies, medical support and food, among others.
Despite the calls of the UN authorities and the claims of its member countries, the United States insists on maintaining its policy of harassment and sanctions against Cuba and even intensifies them, according to PL. Currently, Washington’s blockade against the Caribbean island appears as the most unjust, severe and prolonged system of unilateral sanctions applied against any nation.
