Cuban Firefighter Day celebrated in Granma

The 323 anniversary of the creation of the first Cuban Fire Brigade was celebrated on Wednesday in the province of Granma with important results in the work of these branch.

For its work, dedication, preparation and contribution to society, the Fire Department of Granma was recognized on the celebration for the 323 anniversary of its creation.

At the headquarters of the Provincial Fire Command in Bayamo, Colonel Landres Gutiérrez Torres, Head of the Ministry of Interior (MININT) in the province, conveyed the congratulations on the celebration, the fulfillment of the missions and the preparation of future firemen.

The head of the MINIT in Granma also announced the message sent by Vice-Mirador Julio César Gandarilla Bermejo, Minister of the Interior addressed to Cuban firefighters.

In the act, Lieutenant Colonel Orestes López Alvarez referred the results achieved by this institution that places it among the best in the country.

“The Granma Fire Department marks this anniversary exhibiting national outstanding awards in the year, for the results achieved in the preparation, prevention and fighting the fires,” he said.

Among other achievements, the territorial fire brigade is the winner for the third consecutive year of the national championship of technical skills and leader at national level on the National Week for Fire Protection, he added.

On the 323 anniversary of the creation of the Cuban Fire Command, a group of outstanding fire- fighters were also awarded with the Distinguished Service Distinction of the Ministry of Interior and others received recognition for their results in improving the living and working conditions of the firemen.

This celebration was approved in 1996, in a Latin American Congress, held in Cuba. The date comes from the birth of the Cuban Fire Department in the province of Villa Clara, on November 13, 1696. (By: Marisela Presa Sagué)
