Exercise Meteoro 2022 concludes with practical activities

Carrying out practical tasks to minimize risks and dangers generated by natural disasters, in addition to evacuation activities and protection of the population against these phenomena, constituted the main objective of the second day of Exercise Meteoro 2022, which began yesterday and concluded today, throughout the Granma territory.

The Sunday session began with the visit of the members of the Provincial Defense Council (CDP) to the headquarters of the Defense Council of the Bayamo municipality, where the prevention actions were evaluated, and the program of activities to be developed to enlist the population and the different organisms in the response to meteorological events.

Later, in the Mariana Grajales neighborhood of the provincial capital, an evacuation drill of its inhabitants took place, in the face of a possible flood as a result of its location on the banks of the Bayamo River.

Then, in the Guajiro Natural gastronomic and cultural center, the CDP verified the preparation of various easy-to-cook foods that are very useful in times of war and other types of exceptional situations. The existence of a kitchen service capable of supplying food to around 1,200 Bayameses was also known.

Likewise, evacuation actions were carried out for hospitalized patients in the Jimmy Hirzel polyclinic, to nearby areas, where they were given first aid after an allegedly intense earthquake.

The Sunday activities concluded with a rescue exercise of people by the Granma Fire Department, in the buildings of the Antonio Guiteras neighborhood, affected by a major earthquake that caused a fire and partial collapses. Colleagues from the International Red Cross and public health workers also participated in the relief efforts.

In the closing act of Exercise Meteoro 2022, carried out in the aforementioned distribution, Yanaisi Capó Nápoles -president of the CDP- expressed that we must fully prepare ourselves to face the coming hurricane season, which is forecast to be intense.

The highest political authority of Granma insisted that the plans for natural eventualities must be in correspondence with our reality and she added that we must know how to respond to climatological challenges, even in the midst of great shortages of material and economic resources.

“The most important thing is the life of the population, which must be the protagonist and the best prepared, in these days dedicated to the reduction of risks and dangers of natural origin”, she emphasized.

Similar activities took place in the rest of the Granma municipalities.
