The Municipal Assemblies of People´s Power has called for an extraordinary session for next Saturday to approve the figure of the municipal intendants, as established by the Constitution of the Republic approved in 2019.

The Municipal Mayor is an essential position for the management of the territory, they will be designed on the basis of a proposal from the President of the Municipal Assembly of People´s Power.

The intendants will head the Municipal Administration Councils, which will be in charge of meeting the needs of the economy, health care, assistance, education, culture, sports and recreation in each territory, according to Article 201 of the Constitution.

Among the changes in the structures of the government are the elimination of the provincial Assemblies of People´s Power and the nomination of the Intendant, who will be in charge of the political and administrative positions.

The municipal intendant attends the sessions of the municipal Assemblies of the People´s Power, with voice, but without the right to vote; and in correspondence with article 182 of the Constitution, it integrates the Provincial Council along with the President and the Vice President of the Municipal Assembly.

Besides, according to the article 202 of the Constitution the Administration Body is designed by the Municipal Assembly of the People´s Power, while article 203 state that, the Municipal Administration Council is chaired by the Intendant, whose designation or replacement corresponds to the Municipal Assembly, at the proposal of its President.(With information taken from CNC TV)
