Granma dams begin the 2020 at the 63 percent of its capacity

With 595 million 57 thousand cubic meters (m³) of water stored in its reservoir Granma started the year 2020.

That amount of water represents the 63 percent (%) of stored of the total capacity  in the 11 dams as a whole managed by the Directorate of Hydraulic Resources in the province, which is 940 million 620 thousand m³, and guarantees the entity to fulfill its delivery commitments to the population.

It is most likely that, the availability of water will decrease in the first period of the new year, since there are still three months left in the current dry season in Cuba, from November 2019 until next April.

The reservoirs that have the most favorable situation at the moment are Cilantro, in the municipality of Pilón, Cautillo (Jiguaní) and Paso Malo (Bartolomé Masó), which are 95, 93 and 90% full, respectively.

Meanwhile, the Guisa dam, Las Villas (Jiguaní) and Bueycito (Buey Arriba), report the lowest filling percentages: 23, 35 and 43, in that order.

The remaining five are in the range of 50 to 83% and it should be noted that Cauto del Paso, the largest of the province, retains 211 million 310 thousand m³, for 64% filling.

Although the situation is not worrisome, in water availability in Granma, it is necessary to make a rational and productive use of this important economic resource.
