The health authorities of the Granma reported that the territory remains with the lowest incidence rate of COVID-19 in Cuba.
According to Dr. Kenia González Medina, Head of Medical Care of the Provincial Directorate of Public Health in Granma, only 12 positive cases were detected for an incidence rate of 1. 46 infected per thousand inhabitants.
The first cases were diagnosed on March 19 and the last two were discharged on May 5, thus, the territory has been without new positive cases for the pandemic for 15 days.
Regarding to the municipalities there were five in Bayamo, 4 in Guisa, 1 in Jiguaní, 1 in Río Cauto and 1 in Manzanillo, she explained.
According to nationality, there were 3 foreigners from Spain, France and the United States and 9 Cubans, 6 of them foreign travelers.
As stated by Dr. González, the 12 cases have been recovered, all are in clinical discharge and only two remain are under isolation awaiting the epidemiological discharge.
Although the province of Granma has a favorable epidemiological situation, the Health authorities insist on increasing the risk perception, as the risk of contracting the Covid remains, and they urge the maintenance of personal biosecurity measures and social isolation.
Regarding the recently randomized study carried out in the country to detect asymptomatic cases of the disease, she said that the first of the four stages of the study was ended, with negative results so far. She added that 24 people are kept in isolation centers and 28 negative samples were received from Santiago de Cuba
