Granma reports highest number of active Covid-19 cases

The province of Granma reported, this Wednesday, 83 new cases of positive patients to Covid-19, the highest number during a day in this territory, since this pandemic began to affect Cuba.

This figure places Granma as the third in the country with the highest number of positive cases of the new coronavirus during the closing of Tuesday, only surpassed by Havana (382) and Pinar del Río (152).

The municipality of Bayamo was the most affected, with 77 positives, followed by Jiguaní (3), Buey Arriba (1), Niquero (1) and Yara (1), all autochthonous.

Also, stable critical patient was reported, a 78-year-old Cuban citizen, resident in Bayamo, and with high blood pressure and Ischemic Heart Disease as a personal pathological history.

According to the Minsap report, the patient is in Intensive Care, on mechanical ventilation with moderate respiratory distress. She is hemodynamically stable, with adequate diuresis, blood gas with moderate hypoxemia and bilateral diffuse alveolar infiltrate predominantly right, pulmonary congestion and cardiomegaly.

Dr. Francisco Durán García, national director of hygiene and epidemiology of MINSAP, stressed that the province continues to adopt measures that allow it to reduce the current increase in positive cases.

For his part, Dr. Nelson Carracedo Machado, head of the Covid-19 management position in Granma, explained that the 83 confirmed people are admitted to isolation centers.

Of that number he noted, three were transferred to Santiago de Cuba for presenting co morbidities associated with the new coronavirus.

He pointed out that in the current stage of confrontation Granma reports 803 positive patients, 262 suspects, 578 contacts and 234 travelers.

Carracedo Machado stressed that, given the increase in the number of cases, the development of active research is intensifying in primary care, as well as border control between the municipalities of the territory and with the rest of the country’s provinces.

Today, Cuba reports 914 new cases, according to the information provided by Dr. Durán García.
