Havana will host a meeting of Parlatino commissions

The meetings of the Health and Education, Culture, Science, Technology and Communication commissions of the Latin American and Caribbean Parliament (Parlatino) will be held in Havana between May 26 and 27.

Esteban Lazo Hernández, president of the National Assembly of People’s Power and of the Council of State of the Republic of Cuba, extended a cordial welcome to our country to all the delegates, while wishing success in this important event, where they will analyze relevant topics for our region and the planet.

“Cuba, which will participate in both commissions, has been internationally recognized in the fields of health and education, and reaffirms its solidarity in these fields with the brotherly peoples of Latin America and the Caribbean,” added Lazo Hernández.

For her part, Yolanda Ferrer Gómez, head of the International Relations Commission of the National Assembly, highlighted on her Twitter account that our nation chairs the Health Commission and occupies the first vice-presidency of the Education Commission in the Parlatino, a responsibility of the deputies Luis Velázquez and Miguel Charbonet, respectively.

According to the official program, the members of the Health Commission of the regional organization will examine topics such as education and resilient science for sustainable development in the post-COVID-19 stage; the epidemiological situation of COVID-19, impacts and lessons of the pandemic in the region; post-COVID health policies in Latin America and the Caribbean; and the strengthening of health systems.

Meanwhile, the members of the Committee on Education, Culture, Science, Technology and Communication will discuss the Plan for Education for the Development and Integration of Latin America, the Cultural Feasibility Project in Development Planning, the Network of Parliamentarians for Education for All, the activities of the Legislative Academy of the Latin American Parliament and the report on the Parlatino Library, Documentation Center and Central Archives. Likewise, they will analyze the reports on the model law of science, technology and innovation for Latin America and the Caribbean; of the model law on cultural feasibility in development planning; on the UNESCO-MONDIACULT World Conference 2022, which will be hosted from September 28 to 30, 2022 by the Government of Mexico; as well as the presentation of Virtual Educa, related to the Global Education Summit, among other initiatives.

During their stay in the Cuban capital, the Latin American and Caribbean legislators will visit centers of scientific and cultural interest.
