Covid-19 has imposed a strong work dynamic in the province of Granma, a territory that has more than 80 percent of the workers in the Public Health sector immersed in the confrontation with this pandemic.
This was commented by Yelenis Elías Montes, Provincial Director of Public Health, during an exchange with personalities from this sector in recognition of its noble and altruistic participation in the fight against this disease.
“You know that the sector has an infrastructure that in normal situations is complex. These epidemic peaks have imposed a great challenge to achieve the isolation of patients in the best conditions,” said Elías Montes.
The Covid -19 in Granma, expressed Elías Montes, has gone through several phases: a first moment marked by an epidemiological silence, until a rise in cases in the months of March and April, during which work began with the first cases and a great broadcast.
“Then we managed to advance towards the control of the epidemic, and later after the circulation of the Delta variant, the increase in cases in the territory that today shows a clear epidemic peak and high transmission; municipalities that had had a good control, practically without cases, today stand out with a significant number of infections.
“In all these stages, the Public Health sector has led important processes of primary health care, for example, recently graduated doctors have given up a group of days to contribute to the confrontation of the Covid; Others also contribute from that daily work in the family medical office, in the monitoring of cases, follow-up, the daily investigation, ”said Elías Montes.
He also recognized that at the time, applying the home admission protocol did not contribute to the control of the epidemic, but rather to the spread of the disease and the transmission period to be extended much more with a highly contagious strain and a very high virulence. Therefore, it was one of the factors that caused the numbers to rise.
Today one hundred percent of sick people are institutionally isolated, thus taking advantage of any existing capacity.
