An increase in water quality and greater stability in its delivery will contribute to the execution of water treatment and desalination plants in the province of Granma. The investment is part of the national water program aimed at raising people’s quality of life.
The Cuban State undertakes several investments in the country for the benefit of the quantity and quality of water services to the population.
In this regard, the expansion and rehabilitation of the Santa Isabel Water Treatment Plant, the main source of supply for the capital of Granma, is being carried out in Bayamo.
¨ It will solve a social problem in Bayamo, stabilize the water source. Not enough, because Bayamo requires much more water than what this plant is going to provide. But now it will give it continuously, ”said Engineer Andrés Rodríguez Pizarro, Specialist of Water Resources in Granma.
The investment is part of the basic conditions created for the supply to Bayamo, to which others are added such as: the construction of large capacity tanks and the execution of wells to increase supply sources.
Another of the efforts to improve the quality of life of the people is the construction of desalination plants in areas characterized by high levels of salinity in the waters.
In the province of Granma there is already an installation of this type in El Salvial an another in the Papilastre community is placing, both of the municipality of Cauto Cristo.
¨ Within the central financing we have this one of Papilastre and 5 more plants, 3 in Bayamo, in Las Mangas community, Molino Rojo and the 26 de Julio neighborhood, Troya in Manzanillo and Buey de Gallego in the municipality of Yara, said Aristónico Contreras , Head of Investments Granma.
These tasks are part of the hydraulic development of Cuba, which include water purification, rehabilitation of networks and conduits, sewage systems, and desalination, in order to improve water quality for the benefit of the people.
