Today, Mexicans make a wide recognition of the official visit of Cuban president, Miguel Díaz-Canel, invited by his counterpart Andrés Manuel López Obrador for national independence celebration.
Civil society organizations, political parties, solidarity movement with Cuba, Cuban residents in this country, institutions and personalities, welcome the Cuban ruler and express their rejection of provocative statements such as those of former Mexican president Felipe Calderón and leaders of the right-wing Party National Action.
The National Executive Committee of the Morena Regeneration Movement, a government party created by López Obrador, gave this Wednesday the warmest welcome to the president of the sister Republic of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, as mentioned in a statement.
Likewise, we want to show our respect for the heroic revolutionary people, who have resisted for more than 62 years the onslaught of imperialism and the criminal economic blockade, he added.
As a party-movement, Morena recognizes and makes a call to demand the end of the economic blockade, stop foreign interference in the region by organizations such as the OAS, and promote another to replace it, he indicated.
The Communist Party also welcomed Díaz-Canel and noted “that Mexico welcomes him with open arms because Cuba represents progress, international cooperation, the beacon of light and the hope that a better world is possible.”
In turn, the 4T Patria Grande Antifascist Committee called a rally in front of the island’s embassy to demonstrate Mexico’s support for the Cuban Revolution and welcome the Cuban president.
The Popular Socialist Party of Mexico, founded by Vicente Lombardo Toledano, expressed satisfaction with the visit of Díaz-Canel, who embodies the thought and action of José Martí and Fidel Castro, he said.
The militants, he pointed out, give the warmest and most combative welcome to the homeland of Hidalgo, Morelos, Juárez, Villa, Zapata and Cárdenas, when in Mexico important steps are being taken to achieve independence, social justice and the extension of democratic life.
The Continental Front of Communal Organizations also issued a statement of greeting in similar terms, while the Citizen Observatory of Coyoacán and the Morena Coyoacán School of Cadres, expressed a warm welcome to the President of Cuba in a proclamation signed by 90 Mexican intellectuals led by the writers and journalists Elena Poniatowska, Paco Ignacio Taibo II and John Saxe Fernández.
