Fourteen young people, including five students from the University of Granma, attend patients in the red zone at the Peralejo isolation center set up in the headquarter of the University, where contacts of positive cases for Covid-19 are hospitalized.

This is the testimony of the young Arnaldo Pérez Ortiz, a fifth-year Agronomy student, one of the hundreds of young people in Granma who support patient care in isolation centers.

¨My name is Arnaldo Perez Ortiz. I am working here in the red zone of the Peralejo isolation center, among the main tasks that we are carrying out here is the welcome of the patients who arrive at the center, and we transfer them to each room, where they will be admitted¨.

Also, we carry out the cleaning of the bathrooms and the main corridor, and we carry the food of the patients who are here, who are contacts of positive cases of Covid-19, he added.

¨It is a hard task, of high risk, because even when we comply with all the measures, there may be the possibility of being infected with this dangerous virus that is plaguing the world. Even so, we are willing to return to the red zone if our contribution is needed¨, he stated.

When the call to attend to patients in isolation centers from the red zone was launched, many young people from Granma have shown their willingness to carry out such a complex but necessary task, an altruistic gesture worthy of our youth in pandemic times.
