Tapia Fonseca calls to shake the sugar industry in Granma

Cuban Deputy Prime Minister Jorge Luis Tapia Fonseca highlighted in this city the need to shake the sugar industry in Granma, as corresponds to the history, culture and traditions of the sector in the eastern territory, which became an example for the country.
In exchange with businessmen, cooperatives, workers and representatives of relationship organizations and entities, the leader called for overcoming quality problems in maintenance, of an organizational and management nature, among others that caused a very deficient campaign in the previous year.
Accompanied by Julio Andrés García Pérez, president of the AzCuba Sugar Group, and the highest political and governmental authorities of the province, he specified strategic concepts regarding the implementation of measures aimed at strengthening agricultural and manufacturing processes.
On the advantages of organizing the workforce in labor groups to increase motivation, results, responsibility, sense of belonging and income of those who contribute the most, he heard experiences from the Julio Zenón Acosta Basic Unit of Cooperative Production, of Bayamo municipality.
Tapia Fonseca stressed that this system will also favor the integral control and adequate use of fuel and fertilizers, and the quality of land preparation, seed selection, cultural attention to the plantations and the subsequent cutting of the sugarcane.
The decentralization of functions and autonomy of the sugar companies, the possibility of the producer to have bank loans and manage their economy, and how much more can be entered and contributed to obtaining food from planting in guardrails, intercropping crops and having efficient livestock modules, were also subjects of analysis and debate.
Previously, the president of AzCuba checked the assurances for the upcoming 2021-2022 harvest in Granma, where only two colossi are expected to grind: Enidio Díaz, from the coastal town of Campechuela, and Arquímedes Colina, from Bayamo.
Faced with objective limitations such as low availability of the grass and a complex situation of the sugarcane roads in the territory, organization and discipline will constitute key factors, because, although small, the contest can generate significant income as a result of the increase in the price of sugar, García Pérez valued.
However, the challenge of recovering and growing sugarcane production persists, with the aim of incorporating a third plant for next year, and ensuring that the five existing in the province grind by 2023, he added.
