The testimony entitled “El camino y la fe”, by the director Daiteré de los Ángeles Valois, reached First Place at the David Rodríguez in Memoriam Radio Press Festival, in its first edition.

The jury made up of journalists Márcel Santana Docazal, Caridad Rosales Aguilera and Jorge Carlos Tamayo Milanés, evaluated the 37 works sent from the stations in the province of Granma, and which were produced and broadcast during the period between October 15, 2020 and on September 31, 2021.

The winning work includes the emotional testimony of the prominent photojournalist Luis Carlos Palacios Leyva about his friendship with the journalist David Gregorio Rodríguez Rodríguez, who during 45 years of work on this radio station served as a reporter, editor, director of the Provincial Radio Newscast and host of the Informative Magazine Hoy en la Noticia.

The jury awarded second place in the contest to Radio Bayamo journalist Milena Céspedes Milan, for her report on the work carried out in the mountainous community of San Pablo de Yao by teacher Rosa Vázquez, who records teleclasses so that children from intricate areas can access that knowledge.

The third place in the festival went to the hands of Sadie Areán, from the radio station Radio Jiguaní, for the chronicle about Bráyam Rondón Gómez, a young medical student who participates in active investigations to detect possible cases of Covid-19 in the neighborhoods and communities of that municipality.

The jury highlighted that this important public health issue was addressed through a chronicle, a journalistic genre that David Rodríguez used frequently, and he always did so in a masterful way.

It was also decided to award two mentions, one for the Testimony made by the journalist Ariel Rodríguez Gómez with the medical student Pedro Luis Sánchez Sagué, a sexual rights activist.

The other mention recognized the values of the interview with the centennial Manzanillo grandmother Mercedes García Rosales, owner of an excellent memory and lucidity, who has a pleasant dialogue with the journalist Roberto Mesa Matos.

The closing of this Radio Press Festival coincides with the first anniversary of the death of David Rodríguez, which occurred on October 15, two thousand and twenty.

For his commendable professional performance, David deserved the Rubén Castillo Ramos Work of Life Award and the Bartolomé Martí Pons Work of the Year Award, awarded by the Union of Journalists of Cuba in this eastern province, and was also awarded the Bayamo Prize , granted by the Provincial Sector of Culture.
