When on the morning of Tuesday of the previous week I went out to the street and appreciated “a sea” of people like crazy ants from one place to another, from one “queue” to another, my skin crawled and I concluded that they simply do not assess the true risk of Covid-19 at all.
Such a panorama, repeated every day until today, is the result of “not seeing” that SARS-CoV-2 is the most developed virus in world history, with a very rapid spread and without paying attention to anything or anyone.
It is also important not to pay attention to the fact that the disease it causes is lethal and still unknown to science, which is why there is no pharmacological solution.
What we could call “spectacle” is due to the fact that many people “are deaf” to the provisions that Public Health managers offer to the population on a daily basis, and to the guidelines of the highest partisan and governmental authorities of the province.
The issue seems repetitive, but reality shows that it is not, and that everything that is done or said in favor of achieving a greater perception of risk is insufficient, since the flexibility of the restrictive measures adopted, with the opening of various services of Procedures, various options for commerce and gastronomy, transportation, tourism and the restart of the school year for the terminal grades, has been for many a synonym of relaxation of behaviors.
The fact that the numbers of confirmed, admitted, suspected and infected pediatric patients have had a substantial decrease in recent days is not equivalent to trusting us, nor to thinking that everything is resolved, even several municipalities continue to be at very high risk, and the future in the face of Covid-19 is uncertain.
It was known that every time vital services of social and economic life were reopened, and most workers were reincorporated to their jobs, the risk increases again, but the greatest responsibility falls on us, who must be consistent and highly disciplined, finally adapting to be more systematic with hygienic actions in the social and personal environment.
In addition, it is our responsibility to be cautious in our social approach, and avoid crowds in public places, and when it is essential to queue to buy basic necessities, let’s do it as established, protected with a mask, at a prudent distance from other people and with the knob of bleach or alcohol for the hands.
We are all eager to resume daily activities, to behave as we are used to, to socialize in the Cuban way, but without forgetting that for now things may not be the same as before and therefore, we live and we will live for a while an “Abnormal normality”, which requires sacrifices, discipline and understanding, because no one, for sure, wants the sad reality imposed by the coronavirus.
