The production of fired clay bricks is promoted in Granma

The Construction Materials Production Company (EPMC) “promotes the production of fired clay bricks,” declared Danilo Andréu Garcés, deputy director of production of that entity belonging to the Popular Power (government), in the province of Granma, southeast of Cuba.
In the ovens to manufacture the mentioned construction element existing in Granma municipalities, their exploitation increases, of which the Base Business Unit (UEB) of the EPMC in Manzanillo is an example, which makes from 100 to 120 thousand units as a monthly average.
Andréu Garcés said that his company works to create the necessary conditions for the elaboration, as currently they do not, of bricks of the aforementioned type, in the municipalities of Jiguaní, Río Cauto and Pilón, on the basis that the productions from the EPMC are obtained, basically, from existing resources in the localities, for example, clay, pasture stones (to obtain aggregates), cocoa (white earth), wood, among others.
The director of the aforementioned entity of non-metallic mineral resources highlighted: “Granma has one of the largest reserves in the country: limestone rock, volcanic rock, volcanic glass, marl, clay …”
In Granma territory there is abundant the raw material required for the elaboration of fired clay bricks and in some of its towns such as Bayamo, there is a tradition in making them and experienced potters.
Most of the EPMC’s productions are sold, through Internal Trade, to people who build their houses, or repair the ones they own, financed with subsidies granted to them by local government bodies.
