The traditional tribute that the Cuban family pays to mothers in the cemetery, on the second Sunday of each year, Mother’s Day is suspended, due to the Coronavirus contingency that the country faces.
It was announced by Ángel Rubén Pérez González, Provincial Deputy Director of Hygiene and Necrology at the Provincial Directorate of Communal Services on the Frecuencia 12 television program.
“We urge the Granma family to pay this heartfelt tribute this time from heart and from home. It is very important to continue applying the measures that the country´s leadership has ordered to reduce the impact of the pandemic in the country”, said Pérez González.
In accordance with this measure, there will be no sale of flowers or flower arrangements.
González reiterated that among the measures adopted in Granma, the funerals would only last two hours, and the cemetery hours are extended until 6:00 in the afternoon, the burials will be during the day; those who died after 4:30 pm, would be buried in the early hours of the morning.
Community workers work in the maintenance of the 79 existing cemeteries in the province.
