A beautiful cultural tribute was paid by hundreds of Granmenses, this Thursday, to José Martí in Dos Ríos, the place where the most universal of all Cubans fell 127 years ago.
The homage to the National Hero began with the declamation of verses of his authorship and songs dedicated to the man born in the Havana street of Paula, to later represent passages of his life and artistically recreate characters and stories present in The Golden Age.
The occasion was opportune to give recognition to the Municipal Museum of Jiguaní, for contributing to the preservation of the historical site that evokes the physical disappearance of the Apostle.
Liliana Suárez Pérez, an accounting and finance student at the University of Granma, took part in the activity on behalf of the new generations, who expressed: “This is one of those dates that always moves us, because it does not mean the loss of any man, but the absence of the most brilliant mind of the nation.
“The University Student Federation has traditionally been Marti’s, and that is why for us the visit to Dos Ríos is of great importance and uniqueness, because we come here to honor him and drink from his sap.”
Likewise, two floral offerings were deposited at the base of the obelisk that commemorates the exact place where José Martí fell on May 19, 1895.
The event was presided over by Yanaisi Capó Nápoles, first secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba in Granma, and Francisco Escribano Cruz, governor of the province.
In addition, contestants from the XXVII edition of the children’s plastic arts fair From where the palm grows, belonging to various territories of the country, also participated.
