A group of 61 young people from the eastern province of Granma pays homage this Friday to the Cuban revolutionary leader Julio Antonio Mella, on the 91 anniversary of his assassination, crime occurred in Mexico, in 1929.
A group of outstanding students os the higher education will climb the Mella Peak, in the mountain municipality of Bartolomé Masó, to evoke from there the founder and eternal fellow of the members of the University Student Federation.
Migdiala Charón Ricardo, the FEU president at the University of Granma, told ACN that after the climb to the hill they will carry out cleaning and beautification works on the site where, since 1996, a bronze bust of the paradigmatic fighter is placed.
Also, outstanding students will receive the card that accredit them as members of the Young Communist League.
The troop, which departed Thursday from the city of Bayamo, spent the night at the Che Comandante camp for explorer pioneers in El Caney de Las Mercedes, and its members exchanged with inhabitants of the community.
Julio Antonio Mella was born on March 25, 1903 and during his short life he developed an intense revolutionary work, highlighting as founder of the Anti-Imperialist League and the first Leninist Marxist Party of Cuba.
He also organized the First National Student Congress and spread up ideas that inspired the creation of the José Martí Popular University. (Daimara Pérez Suárez, ACN)
