The Municipal Assembly of People´s Power constituted in the political-administrative division whose limits are established by the Law, is the local higher body of the state power. Therefore, they are granted with the highest authority for the exercise of the state functions in its demarcation. To this effect they govern in all that is under their jurisdiction and the law.

For the exercise of its functions, the Municipal Assembly of People´s Power support in the People’s Councils and the initiative and broad participation of the population and they act in close coordination with the social and mass organizations.

Once the Municipal Assembly of People´s Power is constituted, it elects, from among its delegates, its president and vice president, according to the procedure established in the Electoral Law.

The Municipal Assemblies of the People’s Power are composed of the Delegates of the Municipality elected every two and a half year.

 

This mandate may only be extended by decision of the National Assembly of People´s  Power, in the cases indicated in Article 72 of the Constitution of the Republic.
