The Young Communists League of Cuba (UJC) and the José Martí Pioneer Organization (OPJM) today congratulated the children of the Caribbean nation for International Children’s Day on June 1st.
A message published in the Juventud Rebelde newspaper recalls the reasons for celebrating, despite the epidemiological situation caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.
It recognizes infants who remain in their homes due to the Covid-19, even though they miss some of their everyday activities like going to school.
Our infants study and receive their teleclass responsibly, play alone, share encouragement messages and drawings, and applaud health workers and help their families, adds the text.
Also, the note remembers that the Cuban State guarantees the protection and participation of the youngest population and one of those results is the low infant mortality rate of five per thousand live births.
This is possible thanks to the love and commitment that the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, dedicated to children, added the UJC and OPJM, organizations that group young people and minors in Cuba and watch over their rights.
The Universal Children’s Day was established by the United Nations in 1956, aim to promote the welfare of children around the world.
The UN agreed that each country should promote activities that directly involve the child of each house.
The reality of childhood in Cuba, which began to celebrate the date from 1963, is very different from that of other countries where more than 250 million children from five to 14 years old work long hours and another 130 million do not even receive elementary education, remember the message.
